I'm home!

I'm ecstatic to be home.

Also I'm ecstatic that I spelled ecstatic correctly on the first try. [shove it, Autocorrect!]

For those not in the know, Wiff and I were on the road for a month. Actually, that's an exaggerhayshun [come back, Autocorrect!]. We spent a week driving to lovely Phoenix, AZ,  enjoyed two weeks there, and then hoofed it back home to New York over the following week.

Here's the itinerary [<-- yay! you're back, Autocorrect!]:

  1. New York, NY
  2. Roanoke, VA
  3. Nashville, TN
  4. Dallas, TX
  5. El Paso, TX
  6. Phoenix, AZ
  7. El Paso, TX
  8. San Antonio, TX
  9. Hattiesburg, MS
  10. Knoxville, TN
  11. New York, NY

By the numbers

  • 5,495 miles. Although the Avis guy told me "600 miles" when I asked him total mileage. 😐
  • 81 hours in a Volkswagen Beetle [we ride in style]
  • 4 Outback Steakhouses: Roanoke, Dallas, Hattiesburg, Knoxville. "Only 4?" you ask? Yes. Most of the time there's an Outback Steakhouse in the parking lot or otherwise visible from our La Quinta window, but sometimes we branch out.

I love Memorial Day.

I love any holiday that extends the weekend by another whole day. It's like getting 50% more weekend for free!

Well...not exactly. Someone paid my fee with their life in service of the great US of A. And for that, I'm thankful.

I don't know about you, but I didn't know that Memorial Day is a celebration for the fallen soldiers. I thought it was for ALL service people. That would be Veterans Day [no apostrophe!] and, not to confuse you further [I'm flummoxed] "veterans" doesn't just mean "those who formerly served", "it means all who have served and are currently serving". Between the two "holidays" everyone's honored. You could argue that those yet-to-serve aren't honored. But that would be a stupid argument.

Memorial Day means the start to the unofficial summer season. It means getting BBQ stains on white pants, drinking on your friends' boats, and, if you're a man, Grilling.

I don't have a grill [#notaman]. But, if I did and I needed inspiration on something to grill today, I'd hit up ChefSteps. All their recipes are amazing. Check out their grilling guides in their Joule app.

Have a safe Memorial Day Weekend

A cashier at the grocery store told me to have a safe Memorial Day weekend. Safe? What does he know about my weekend that I don't?

Say I did get myself into a bit of a pickle [wink], what are the chances I'm going to say, mid-pickle, "Hold the phones, I juuuust remembered that cashier guy told me to have a safe holiday weekend. Let's pump the brakes." That actually seems like a pretty good way to get out of a pickle.

Whatever briny situations you find yourself in this weekend, just remember your old buddy Anthony asked you to be safe.

I'm into frozen margaritas now.

I know what you're thinking...

"Anthony, how can a devilishly good looking cocktail purist [assbag] like yourself possibly like a frozen, blended beverage?" To which I'd say: "Nice use of brackets to denote the sotto voce insult." And then I'd say "YOU try spending a 4 days in a row in 108˚F weather."

How else was I supposed to cool off? Shade was out of the question and I'm not getting out of the pool except to refill drinks.
